Nov. 11, 1957 - Printed Circuit Transistors, To Reduce Size of Electric Brains are announced by Department of the Army: Printed circuit transistors, developed by US Army research scientist Dr. J W Lathrop, will greatly reduced the size of many items of military army equipment including the electronic brain of guided missiles aircraft, Department of Army announced today. Use of the printed circuit method produces a transistor about 1/20th of an inch wide and 1/100th of an inch high and provides increased reliability and resistance to shock or vibration. It is expected that some equipment can be reduced to one tenth of their present sizes through use of the new transistor to control the flow of current in electronic circuits. Dr Lathrop is a scientist with the Army's Diamond Fuze Laboratories, Washington, DC.
