1958 - Colonel Inder Jit Rikhye, New Unep Chief of Staff Colonel Inder Jit Rikhye, of the Indian Army, is the new Chief of Staff of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF). Succeeding Brig. Eric O. Rosengren of the Swedish Army, Colonel Rikyhye took over his new duties on 1 April 1968, he will also continue as commander of India's Unef contingent, a post he has held since November 1957. The new chief of staff, seen here in his office, is 37 years old a cavalry officer and has served with the Bongal Lancer on India Northwest Frontier. Born in Lahore, he was commissioned from the Indian Military Academy in 1939 and during World Wari II served in the Middle East and Europe. Following Indian Independence, Col. Rikhye commanded the Deccan Horese (armored corps) and was on operation service in Jammu and Kashmir. He attended the Defense Services Staff College from 1952 to 1953 and before comung to Unif was general Staff officer of an armored Division. September 10, 1963 Maj. Gen. Indar Jit Rikye of India is now military adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations at the New York headquarters. May. Gen. Carl Carlssonvon Horn of Sweden resigned last month as head of the UN mission in Yemen as a result of disagreements with Mr. Thant and Gen. Rikye
