Jan. 01, 1958 - Greenland.: Huge blocks of ice are dumped from mining cars by members of the Us Army Corpe of Engineers Arctic Task Force, who are carving a tunnels in the ice cliff. Constructed to test the feasibility of using tunnels and storage rooms under ice, the 1, 200 foot tunnel has its own rail system (terminal rails, center). It is a project of the snow. Ice and Permafrost Establishment, Us ARMY Corps of Engineers, Wilmette, Illinois
