Jan. 01, 1958 - The New Breed An 11-man parachute pathfinder team displays gear and equipment it carries for one of the leathernecks parachute missions. The equipment, which includes radios, helicopter guide panels, smoke signals and lights for night landings, averages between 50 and 90 pounds per man. The prime mission of the unit is to guide helicopter-borne assault force into landing sites and then assist assault troops in movement from landing zone.
