Aug. 08, 1959 - Switch Starts Invasion Of U.S. Air Force Squadrons To England: First moves have began today in the reshaping of the United States Air Force Tactical squadrons in Europe, following General de Gaulle's refusel to allow the Americans to store nuclear weapons in France, Squadrons of tactical fighter-bombers are being switched from airfields in France to Germany, while aircraft with longer range are being moved back to Britain. Today the 10th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing of the U.S. Air Force, flew into the R.A.F. station at Alconbury, Huntingdonshire, from Germany, in the first move of the switch.
