Nov. 11, 1959 - Royal Marine Commando just fails to set up new marching record: Corporal Ronald Knight, 28 years old Royal Marine Commando from Romford, Essex - member of the Royal Marine Forces Volunteer Reserve, City of London Unit - arrived at Charing Cross Station thi afternoon at the end of his week end walk. He unluckily had to give up just South of Epping 10 miles short of Startford because of pulled muscle. He was trying to beat the record set up Lieut. Wayne B. Nicholl of the U.S. Army who walked 104. 8 miles in 40 and a half hours. He completed the journey from Epping to Charing Cross by transport.
