May 05, 1960 - Latest American aircraft on show at U.S.A.F. base - bentwaters - near Ipswich: some of the newer types of aircraft of the united states air foroe were to be seen on display at the U.S.A.F. base, Bentwaters, near Ipswich- during the week-end-as part of the American armed Forces day celebrations. Keystone photo shows view of the Lockheed F-104c Starfighter - the 1, 400 miles an hour plus fighter which weights only 17, 000 ponds - which is less that any other has a long needle-like nose and wing span of only 21ft. 11 inches. The starfighter is armed with a 20mm. multi-barrel cannon with a single General electric j-79 axial-flow turbo-jet engine with afte burner. the stafinghter recently set up a new altitude record of 103, 395.5 feet. It also set up a new world time-to-climb record for 30, 000 secs. also in flight at Bentwater
