Jan. 01, 1962 - Biggest U.S. - Navy unit ever on visit in Hambourg. A unit of eight ships of the United States navy visits Hambourg from the 5th to the 17th January 62. The 25, 000 tons aircraft carrier Essex (ESSEX) is escorted by the tanker Pawoatuk (PAWOATUK) and six destroyers. The 387 officers and 4300 crew will receive a great welcome and a big program while staying at Hambourg.
