Apr. 26, 1963 - New technique for landing Reconaissance Parties.: The U.S. Submarine Segundo has been carrying out trials with marines off Okinawa. The idea being that the marines take their places in rubber rafts on the forward deck of the submarine which then submerges leaving the men to paddle quietly ashore. After completing the mission the troops return to the submarine which watches for them through the periscope. In the event of enemy fire preventing the submarine from surfacing, the troops could tie a rope to the periscope and be towed out to sea.
