1964 - New Submarine Concept Shown: The United States Navy demonstrated a new concept in the propulsion and control of submarines this week at the David Taylor model basin in Carder-rock, Maryland. Using tandem, counter rotating propellers the thirteen and a half foot model was moved up, down, sideways and was rolled, pitched and hovered in an exact position. Commander F.R. Haselton, USN, who is developing this unique concept is able to perform these manoeuvres without the benefit of conventional rudder or bow plane
