Jul. 07, 1965 - Opening of Britain's first car bar.: Britain's first car bar - a meal a minute drive-in restaurant opened alongside the Clockhouse Service Station, Ashford, Middlesex, today. The Car Bar, the first of a nation-wide chain, an experimental prototype - is an eight - sided fibre glass shell containing a deep freeze unit, four refrigerators and two microwave ovens, which cooks the meals in seconds.
