Aug. 15, 1959 - Switch Starts Invasion of US Air Force Squadrons to England. First moves have begun today in the reshaping of the United States Air Force tactical squadrons in Europe, following General de Gaulle's refusal to allow the Americans to store nuclear weapons in France. Squadron of tactical fighter bombers are being switched from airfields in France to Germany, while aircraft with longer range are being moved back to Britain. Today the 10th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing of the US Air Force, flew into the RAF station at Alconbury, Huntingdonshire, from Germany, in the first move of the switch.
