Jan. 05, 1957 - Military May Day Demonstration In East Berlin: To celebrate May Day, the biggest military parades since the war were held in all cities of the Soviet zone of Germany and in East Berlin. Heavily armed units of the Soviet zone People's Army, with artillery, amoured cars and machine gun detachments, took part in the march past, which was watched for three hours by the eastern government and party leaders in East Berlin.
