Military version of Touch Tone telephone
May 25, 1970 - New York, NY, U.S. - Military version of the Bell System's Touch One telephone has 16 buttons. Used in the AUTOVAN (Automatic Voice Network) military network, the four levels of precedence. The use of the buttons permits automatic preemption of circuuits for emergency calls. A higher ranking officer is able to put himself through to a subordinate to give a command even if the subordinate's line is in use. The military network, a tone signal notifies preempted users that a call of greateer precedence is in progress
