Miniature railway for training purposes, Norwich Station

Driver W. E. Harbour of Melton Constable, Norfolk, using the track controller so that two trains can be operated independently on the same track at the same time. This coach was originally built in 1899 - during the Paris exhibition - and is one of three coaches of its kind. It was used by the great central railway as a directric lighting. Railwaymen learn and practise on miniature railway. Boys of all ages from 6 to 60 love miniature trains, even those whose regular job is working on the railways. In a railway siding at Norwich Station is a coach in which is installed an electric working model containing over 100 feet of track, locomotives, carriages, wagons, 38 electric signals and 19 pairs of electric points. This model, given by Trix Ltd. makers of model railways, is used for demonstration and instruction for railwaymen. All over the British railway system, since the turn of the century, footplate staff have been running Mutual Improvement Classes, to improve their own efficiency and to help beginners gain promotion, Sometimes parties of Schoolboys are invited to watch the miniature railway at Norwich, British railways find this an excellent stimulus to recruitment
