Oct. 10, 1963 - Terrible mine catastrophe at Niedersachsen, Germany: The greatest mine catastrophe after the second world war in Germany happened on Friday night. Gigantic amounts of water broke in the mine Mathilde in Lengede-Broistedt near Braunschweig, West Germany. A big filter plant was defective. From 129 miners are 79 saved. Seven miners are to day saved. The last 43 miners are probably drowned. Our picture shows: Drill work for saving the miners, who are choked up with earth and water
