Feb. 29 Miriam Makeba, Wife Of Stokely Carmichael, Sings At Albert Hall: On 28th April, the audience at the Albert Hall will hear the voice of Miriam Makeba, world famous singer, and the wife of Black Power leader, Stokely Carmichael. Mrs. Miriam, who sings folk songs of all nations, has a natural voice, is self-taught and says she cannot read music; nevertheless she has sung at Carnegie Hall, has frequently toured Europe, and is now making a UK Tour which includes several university towns. Miriam sings of people and problems- in a variety of languages which includes Spanish, Hebrew and Portuguese. Her African songs are Zulu, Swazi, Xoss, and Sotha; records include Shanty Town, Many Voices of Miriam and the latest LP I Shall Sing. Most famous are the Xosa Click songs, which invariably bring the house down. South African born Miriam Makeba has acquired Tanzanian nationality, thus becoming a Commonwealth citizen. Her husband, Stokely Carmichael, is a lecturer in philosophy at Conakry University, Guinea, where they have been given a house and VIP treatment by president Sekou Toure. Miriam is also a protege of Harry Belafonte, who says here is the most revolutionary new talent to appear in the last decade. Miriam Makeba, world famous singer, married to Stokely Carmichael, black power leader, will appear at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 28th April. Their home is in Guinea, which recently resisted invasion by Portuguese-backed revolutionaries. At home, they both wear military-style uniforms, and Stokely Carmichael often carries arms
