Missing Renoir painting found in Lewisham, SE London
Sep. 24, 1962 - Missing Renoir Found: The ?5, 000 Renoir painting which fell from Sotheby's director Mrs. Peter Wilson's car boot in Brownhill Road, Catford, last week, was returned yesterday by two coach drivers who will share the ?500 reward. Arthur Baskett, 46, and Martin Quinlan, 51, ran over the painting in a car on the night it was lost. Mr. Quinlan picked it up, took it home and kept it in his firewood cupboard for a week. It was hardly damaged. Said Mr. Quinlan: I'd never even hear of Renoir.
