Mme Dewi Sukarno in London

Jun. 06, 1974 - MME SUKARNO GETS APOLOGY OVER LEVY BOOK, Publishers of the autobiography of Norma Levy, the calI girl, apologised in the High Court yesterday for a false allegation that she had sexual intercourse with President Sukarno of Indonesia. Blond and Hrigge undertook to pulp all copies of the book, I, Norma Levy remaining unsold. Madame Dewi Sukarno, widow of the ex-President, who was deposed in 1967 and died in 1970, had sued them for libel. After the settlement, on the apology and undertaking, Mme Sukarno said, before she left for Ascot, I am very glad that a story which disgraced the memory of a man unable to defend himself, has now been proved to be quite unfounded. Mrs Norma Levy achieved considerable notoriety, and wrote her book in 1973. In it she alleged she had intercourse with President Sukarno when he was in London on an official visit. This allegation, which has caused Mme Sukarno deep distress is wholly false and completely unfounded, said Mr Alexander QC, In fact President Sukarno never came to London on such a visit, never came to England in his life and never met Mrs, Levy. Mme Sukarno had never sought damages- She was content to accept the full apology of the defendants and the undertaking in settlement of her action PHOTO SHOWS:- MADAME DEWI SUKARNO, pictured yesterday
