Model buildings for new culture centre, Berlin, Germany
Mar. 01, 1966 - A new culture centre is to be built in Berlin. The place will be round the Kemplatz at Berlin Zoo. The project will cost about 200 million DM. There will be a National Gallery (architect: Mies-Van-der-Rohe), a public library, now in Marburg and Tubingen (architect Hans Scharon), and some museums. The art treasures are estimated to 12-14 milliards. The treasures, which since the end of the 2nd World War are placed in cellars because there is no place to exhibit them will now get a real place in the new museums. The new centre will be ready in about ten years. Right now they are building the National Gallery and Public Library. The Philharmonic House, which also belongs to this centre, has been ready for two years. For the building of the museum an architectural competition has been arranged.
