Aug. 08, 1958 - Peter Collins dies after 100 mph crash in German Grand prix; Peter Collins, the 27 year old Britain driver died from his injuries after crashing at 100 mph. during the German Grand Prix on the Nurburgring circuit. He was driving a Ferrari. After crashing Collins was rushed to a local hospital the doctors realized that a delicate brain operation was necessary - and he was transferred by helicopter to the Bonn University Hospital. His wife Louise arrived at the hospital half an hour after him -but he was already dead.
