May 05, 1963 - Bluebird leaves track atv 175 mph: Bluebird, the car in which Donald Campbell is attempting to break the World Land Speed record at Lake Eyre, South Australia, has just started its working-=up trials on the salt flats, but yesterday the car swerved and left the track at 175 mph. when the electrical breaking system failed. the fault is believed to have been caused by batteries which had been exhausted by the camera equipment fitted on the car.
