Jun. 09, 1964 - Disaster on the first Lap: Motorcycle and sidecar crew :Luarence Essery of Croydon and Norman Huntingford of Peckham met with disaster at high speed on the first lap of an international sidecar race on the Isle of Man T.T. course yesterday. Their machine took off on the notorious hump-backed Ballaugh Bridge throwing both of them up into the air. Essery is dangerously ill with head injuries, and Hungtingford is suffering from shock.
