Oct. 10, 1965 - John Surtees arrives home after his crash in Canada: John Surtees, the former world champion driver, arrived home yesterday. It was three weeks since he was seriously injured in a 100 m.p.h crash in Canada. Strapped to a stretcher, he was lifted down from a Boeing aircraft at London Airport by a forklift truck. The plane had been nearly two hours late and he was tired, so his wife, PAT, met the Press, and talked confidently of John Surtees's return to the mother racing track. She has been with him ever since his crash during practice at Ontario's Motorsport Track. His Chevrolet Lola T 70 had overturned, pinning him underneath. He had a ruptured kidney, a broken pelvic, injuries to the spine. John was taken to a private ward at St. Thoma's Hospital in London, while surgeons studied I-rays and reports on his injuries, when were sent over with him.
