Aug. 18, 1970 - New cAR fR Jackie Stewart At Oulton: World Champion driver Jackie Stewart is to have a new Formula One car for this year's remaining four championship events. The car called the Tyrrell-Ford-is powered by a Ford Cosworth v8 engines, and will make its Formula one debut at Outlon Park in the international Gold Cup on Saturate. It will give Jackie Stewart his fourth Grand Prix chassis in a many years. The car was designed by Derek Gardner, who joined Ken Tyrrell from Ferguson Research. The car has a semi-wedge type ness with the two integral wings and the whole forward section is made of fibreglass reinforced with carbon fiber. The monoieoque has a pronounced bulge at the center and the cockpit is substantially wider than existing formula One cars thus meeting the new 1971 requirements and not only makes the driving position more comfortable for the drivers but enable him to leave the cockpit more easily in an emergency.
