Aug. 08, 1970 - New car for Jackie Stewart at Quiton.: World champion driver Jackie Stewart is to have new Formula One car for this year's remaining four championship events. The car - called the Tyrrell-Ford-is powered by a Ford Cosworth V* Engine, and will make its Formula One debut at Oulton Park in the International Gold Cup on Saturday. It will give Jackie Stewart his fourth Grand Prix chassis in as many years. The car was designed by Derek Gardner, who joined Ken Tyrrell from Ferguson Research. The car has a semi-wedge type nose with two integral wings and the whole forward section is made of fibreglass reinforced with carbon fibre. The meneceque has a pronounced bulge at the centre and the cockpit is substantially wider than existing Formula One cars thus meeting the new 1971 requirements and not only makes the driving position more comfortable for the driver but enables him to leave the cockpit more easily in an emergency.
