Oct. 29, 1976 - Andretti Wins Japan GP, But Hunt Wins World Racing Title: Despite suicidal weather James Hunt of Britain clinched the world racing drivers championship at the Fuji speedways in Gotemba, as he drove his McLaren into third place in the Japan Formula one race won by Maio Andetti of U.S.A in a Lotus. Niki Lauda of Austria t the defending champion dropped out of the race after the second lap, saying the speedway was too dangerous owing to rain an fog, and he could not see. The cars competing finished the 73 laps as dusk was falling. Clouds of spray is sent up from the rain drenched speedway making it difficult for the drivers to see ahead
