Aug. 08, 1979 - DAVID PURLEY RETURNS TO THE TRACK. Racing driver DAVID PURLEY, 34, will be returning to motor racing once again an on Bank Holiday Monday Aug 27th when he takes part in the Fuji Tape Trophy Race at Brands Hatch. Two years ago on the same track he smashed both his logs during practice for the British Grand Prix, which put him out of motor racing until now. Some years ago he was awarded the George Medal for trying to drag his friend and fellow racing drive Roger Williamson from his burning car in the Dutch Grand Pix but he died that was in 1973.
