Jul. 07, 1980 - Thrust 11 Shows Its Paces British Challenge: Thrust 11, shows its paces at a specially measure course on a runway at the Gosport Naval base in Hampshire. The 27ft car with an engine from a Lightning fighter aircraft, was designed by John Ackroyd to beat the land speed record of 622.407 mph, held at the moment by American Gary Gabelich. Driver Richard Noble took over the car to 120 mph and by next year he hopes to beat the world record
