Feb. 02, 1968 - World's largest Hovercraft takes to the sea for the first time at East Cowes: The world's largest Hovercraft's largest hovercraft, the Mountbatten Class SRN-4, went to sea for the first time yesterday at East Cowes, where it was put through its paces. The 165 ton hovercraft will carry 250 passengers and 30 cars with British Railways cross Channel service, which starts in August.
