Jan. 01, 1968 - Off To The War In Vietnam: 72-year old Miss Peggy Smith and her 23-strong Peace army left yesterday on the first leg of a journey that will bring to Vietnam the strangest army the war-torn country has ever seen. She took with her her weapons of war - three suitcases of boiled sweets and hundreds of children's balloons. Their battle plan is to camp out in the jungle and if the Vietcong or American forces come across to them, they will talk them out of fighting, handing out balloons and sweets. Before she left, Miss Smith, of Wood Lane, Highate, said: I'm looking forward to the trip. It feels wonderful to be off at last. We will go to the borders of Cambodia, then if we get visas to North Vietnam, we will move ever. I am not the least afraid. we have a job to do and we are jolly well going to do it.
