Oct. 10, 1971 - GENERAL ASSEMBLY RECOGNIZES PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AS ONLY LEGITIMATE REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINA EXPELS REPRESENTATIVES OF CHIANG KAI-SHEK'. The General Assembly voted tonight to recognize the representatives of the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-Shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations affiliated to it'. The Assembly acted by adopting a draft resolution, sponsored by Albania and 22 other nations, by a vote of 76 in favour to 35 against, with 17 abstentions.
