Oct. 25, 1971 - General Assembly recognized People?s Republic of China as only legitimate representative of China. Expels ?representatives of Chiang Kai-Shek? ? United Nations, New York, 25 October 1971 The General Assembly voted tonight to recognize the representatives of the People?s Republic of China as the only legitimate representative of China to the United Nations, and ?to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organization, sponsored by Albania and 22 other nations, by a vote of 76 in favour to 35 against, with 17 abstentions.
