Dec. 07, 1971 - General Assembly Takes Up Item Referred To It By The Security Council On India And Pakistan Foreign Minister Of Senegal Speaks On Middle East Situation: The General Assembly this morning took up the item on India and Pakistan which had been referred to it yesterday by the Security Council under the provision of the United for Peace resolution of the 1950 Assembly, in view of the fact that Lack of unanimity of its permanent members had prevented it from exercising its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security'. At the outset of the meeting, the Assembly heard the Foreign Minister of Senegal speak on the Middle East situation. Carlos Ortiz De Rozas (Argentina) introducting a draft resolution, co-sponsored also by Belgium, Burundi, Spain, Ghana, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Tunisia on the India-Pakistan issue. Seated at the presidential rostrum are Adam Malik (left) of Indonesia, President of the Assembly, and C.A. Stavropoulos, Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly Affairs
