Oct. 10, 1974 - An Irishman And A Japanese Share The 1974 Nobel Peace Prize: The 1974 Nobel Peace Prize is to be awarded to Sean McBride, former Irish Republic Foreign Minister, and the former Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Eisaku Sato, Mr. McBride, aged 70, was chief of staff of the Ira in 1928 but later accepted constitutional means for the Republican struggle. His father, John McBride, was executed by the British after the 1916 rebellion. Mr. Sato, aged 73, served four consecutive terms as Japanese Premier until forced to resign in 1972 when relations called with the United States.
