Sep. 09, 1975 - General Assembly opens thirtieth regular session, admits three States to United Nations membership.: The General Assembly, opening it's thirtieth regular session this afternoon, elected Gaston Thorn, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, as its President, and admitted three new member States to the United Nations: Cape Verde, Sao To and Principe, and Mozambique. The organization now has 141 members. The Assembly adopted without a vote separate draft resolutions calling for the President declared that the three States - all former Territories under Portuguese administration - had been admitted unanimously.
