Sep. 09, 1981 - UN General Assembly's Thirty Sixth Regular Session. United Nations, New York, 22 September 1981. The UN General Assembly open its thirty sixth regular session on 15 September, electing as President Ismat T. Kittani, Iraq's Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Global issues such as disarmament and the North South dialogue between rich and poor countries, as well as crisis areas such as the Middle East, Cyprus, Afghanistan, Campuchea and Southern Africa figure in the record 134 items agenda. Two new members - Vanuatu (formerly New Habrides) and Belize (formerly British Honduras) were admitted early in the session, which is due to end 15 December.
