Oct. 04, 1984 - Thirty-Ninth Regular Session Of The General Assembly: The United Nations General Assembly, which commenced its 39th Regular Session on the afternoon of 18 September, elected as its President Paul J.F. Lusaks, Permanent Representative of Zombia to the UN. As proclaimed by the Assembly in 1981, the International Day of Peace was observed on the opening day of the new Session. The United Nations now has 159 Member States. Six other States and thirteen organizations have Observer status. Basile L.
