Mar. 22 Oberkasseler Rhine Bridge in Dusseldorf, West Germany is moving over 47.5 meters: In what is a unique demonstration of advance technology in the world, the Oberkasseler Rhine bridge in Dusseldorf is being shifted over 47.5 meters. The bridge, weighing 12, 500 tons, 600 meters long, 100 meters high and 35 meters wide, is being placed on new piers which lay downstream. The piers were built where the old Rhine bridge was, which was torn down because of its being too small for today's traffic. The operation takes two days.
