Mrs Gordon brings her belongings to Applecross, Highlands

Feb. 02, 1964 - The Highlanders Who Have No Road On the West side of the Scottish Highlands, the Highland Road runs up to Shieldaig, and is shortly to be extended further North to Torridon. To the west of the road lies the peninsula of Applecross where there is a widely spread community of 55 people, and here there is no road at all, not even a track, and they have just been told that no road can be built for them as there are not enough people, so their only means of communication is the little boat which runs around their coast about once a month, and even that is not likely to be running much longer. The Crofters have been told that if they wish they can be evacuated, but none of them wish to leave, so it seems that they will just remain, an abandoned people, left to scramble over the rocks along the rough footpaths as their only means of communication.
