Mrs Mislin da Silva stands in election, Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

Nov. 11, 1959 - Widow Of Village Committee Chairman Stands As Parliamentary Candidate - Opposes Premier's Widow: Mrs. Mislin da Silva, widow of a village Committee Chairman who was shot by the police during the State of Emergency in 1958 in Ceylon - is standing as Parliamentary Candidate in the by-election for the Attanagalla Parliamentary Seat. The by election was caused by the assassination of Premier Bannaranaike, who held the seat for an unbroken period of 25 years. Also standing as candidate is Mrs. Sirimao Bandaranaike, widow of the assassinated Premier. Mrs. Bandaranaiker states that she is standing for election in order to do duty by her murdered husband. Mrs. Da Silva says she is contesting the seat in order to do duty by her murdered husband - and in addition to do duty by the thousands of husbands murdered by the Government during the emergency of 1958.
