Mar. 22 Her Aussie Husband wins the VC: Mrs Shoko Simpson, the Japanese wife of Warrant Officer Tayenne Stewart Simpson, who has just been awarded the Victoria Cross while serving with the Australian forces in Vietnam, is proud and happy as she walks in the gardens of the Australian Embassy in Tokyo where she was entertained together with her married daughter Mrs. Harumi Naono by the officials at the embassy (August 27th). Warrant Officer Simpson, age 43, a former tram conductor and kitchenware salesman, is a veteran of three wars, and was awarded the Victoria Cross for two acts of bravery in Vietnam. He is the first living Australian to receive the VC in Vietnam
