Sep. 09, 1953 - Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Pandit Leaves For The United States. Candidate For General Assembly Presidency. Mrs. Vijayalakshami Pandit, leader of the Indian delegation to the 18th full session of the United Nations General Assembly left Delhi recently with members of the delegation for the United States. Mrs. Pandit has been nominated for the post of President of the General Assembly. She is by no means certain of election -her strongest opponent will be Prince Wan Waithayakon of Siam, who has been an avowed candidate for several months. Mrs. Pandit is expected to have the support of the United States at the election.
