Apr. 05 Theatre in which thousand died in earthquake: Chile. There were 1000 persons in the municipal theatre in Chile, enjoying an American film when the disastrous earthquake struck. All were buried in the debris when the building fell. When this photograph of the ruins was taken only a few bodies had been recovered and many more were buried under the heavy walls. It is estimated that 10, 000 died in Chile alone as a result of the terrific tremor which struck this South American country on the western slopes of the lofty Andes
