Murdoch Wins Vote in News of the World Takeover
Jan. 01, 1969 - R. Maxwell (Pergamon Press) and Rupert Murdoch (News Ltd. of Australia), the contenders in the take over struggle for the News of the World, were at today's meeting of News of the World shareholders. The N.O.W. shareholders voted 299 to 20 on a show of hands in favor of Murdoch and News Ltd. A final decision was made after written pledges from the 400 odd shareholders who attended the meeting in London, naming Murdoch as the new leader of the paper.
