Muriel Cooke, singer, with Charlie Fielder on his barge

May 05, 1951 - A DAY OFF FROM HIGH NOTES Muriel Cooke, 23, has a chat about sea shanties with eighty-three-year-old Charlie Fielder, who knew Muriel when she was so high. Muriel has just won a two-year scholarship to the Royal College of Music. Yesterday she took time off from singing scales to have a look at the South Bank Exhibition. Her old pal Charlie had told her to look him up and take her costume with her if the weather was warm. Since he is skipper of the Festival barge Sara, moored off the South Bank, Muriel decided it was too good an invitation to turn down
