Apr. 18 The National Assembly: In Bangkok, this building is the most familiar in the country, and appears on Thai currency notes. Originally the Throne Hall, it was taken over to its present use in 1983 when Thailand got its constitution from the King after an Army-led coup d etat. Now, however, there in general feeling that it should be once again the Throne Hall to the present popular monarch. Built of white Italian marble, its construction was begun in 1908 and completed in 1916 in Italian Renaissance style. Italian architects designed it and it coat about million dolllars.
