Naval helicopters take supplies to cut off Scottish villages

Jan. 01, 1955 - Royal Navy Helicopers on Mercy Missions. Two Royal Navy Helicopters and RAF Shackleton flew mercy missions all day yesterday to snowbound Scottish villages. The Helicopters were based at Wick and were earmarked for medical and maternity cases in various areas which were cut off by the mounting snow drifts. One of the helicopters picked up Mrs Chrissie Bannerman from Dounreay, and an hour afterwards she gave birth to a 9lb son.
