Jul. 07, 1953 - Where they use Mattresses to hold back the Sea: An army of volunteers are working ceasingly, geeting down to the job of closing a gap in the shattered sea walls of the island of Schouwenm n Holland. They are making matterosses out plaited willow branches, which cover an area of 40 square yards, these are towed to the spot by a tug and then sunk by blocks of granite and then a wall must to be built on top.Some of the volunteers are busy making the mattresses of plaited willow branches
