May 05, 1958 - Viking Ship Prepares To Sail From Norway To New York Link With The Past: An old Viking ship Ormen Lange will soon leave Berged, Norway - for a journey across the oceans to New York. The vessel will be under the command of the Norwegian engineer and ex-Army man Ronald Schonheyder. The journey is the result of a wager by American actor Kirk Douglas who said that no Norwegian nowadays dared to try the same voyage undertaken by the old Norsemen a thousand years ago. The vessel has been fitted with an engine to help the caramen in their long journey.
